Amanda McGee graduated from Virginia Tech this spring, achieving her Master of Urban and Regional Planning degree. As a capstone to this study, she undertook a food access assessment for the City of Roanoke, utilizing USDA Food Access Research Atlas data. This process, undertaken in partnership with the Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commission, will be the focus of her presentation at the 2015 APA Virginia Annual Conference. Her broader interests in planning include focus in sustainable and resilient communities. She is currently interning at Botetourt County's Department of Planning and Zoning, where she is working on research for numerous projects including a new wind energy ordinance as well as interfacing existing databases into GIS.
