Proposal writing and public speaking for planners

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Entry-level planning jobs require a certain skill set. However, these skills are not always taught in school, resulting in a gap between the knowledge students have upon graduating and the knowledge they need to get a planning job. Opportunities to build an entry-level skill set can be difficult to find or expensive. This session aims to teach students, emerging professionals and others looking to hone their skills in proposal writing and public speaking.

Proposal writing is valuable for planners in all sectors and diverse areas of practice. This session will begin with an overview of technical writing skills and then describe specific considerations for proposal writing. Participants will benefit from valuable tips about formality, audience and style. The latter half of the session will give participants an overview of effective public speaking skills. Participants will benefit from valuable tips on how to devise strategies on being able to speak to a wide array of audiences. This session will help bridge the gap between graduation and employment by offering tangible knowledge and practice, and build capacity among younger members of the planning workforce.
