Session Evaluation
The urban forest touches the lives of citizens every day. It provides numerous benefits to communities and residents, including cleaner air and water, cooler temperatures, energy savings, and improved physical and emotional health. Participants will learn how to quantify the many benefits urban forests provide and the elements needed to pro-actively manage this important natural infrastructure element. We will discuss best management practices, lessons learned, and breakdown this seemingly overwhelming task into actionable items. This session is based on the research and work performed to develop the City of Virginia Beach's Urban Forest Management Plan and Program, a plan that can serve as a model for other communities.
